Have you watched the Netflix adaptation of “A Man Called Ove?” Ever since I watched “A Man Called Otto,” I have been wanting to read this since forever!
I find this story as an adventure. I am in awe and swooned over the love story between Ove and his wife Sonja. I am amazed by Ove’s father and his unspoken knowledge. Parvaneh with his amiable Swedish neighbors.
Ove is fifty-nine years old, a straight-forward, gruff, blunt man with a hidden, giving heart. He is a complex character we all can relate to. Thanks to his neighbors as they gradually penetrate the walls he has put up around himself. Through alternating chapters, we witness his emotional journey and understand his grumpiness. While Ove’s frustration and irritability may seem understandable, it becomes evident that he harbors a tender side within his heart.

Right from the start, Ove drew me in, making me laugh and feel deeply. Sometimes I find myself crying and grabbing for a tissue, while other times I just laugh by myself. Ove’s relationship with Sonja offered comfort and warmth, counterbalancing his despair and annoyance. One of my favorite parts of the story is how reluctant yet meaningful relationships Ove formed with his neighbors.
This book is unputdownable! It encourages self-reflection – never forget that everyone has their own story before making judgments about them.
“Love is a strange thing. It takes you by surprise.”
“You only need a ray of light to chase all the shadows away.”
